Due to its remarkable properties raw cork was initially used to make cork stoppers and after that, in floor and wall coverings as well as insulation. As the result of a significant investment in R&D and innovation, cork is now used in high-tech applications, including automotive industry, in the dams and airports construction. The aeronautical sector is using cork as thermal insulation material in space shuttles. Cork has also been used for covering iconic buildings, for design objects, for contemporary furnishings and as an original material for fashion accessories.
